A young mum has been sentenced for encouraging a group of teenagers in a drunken game of truth or dare.

Kirstyann Kavanagh will have to carry out 90 hours of unpaid work for the community.

Her offences took place in Buckie on October 9, 2021, when Kavanagh was 21.

That evening the defendant allowed seven teenagers, aged between 13 and 15, to drink inside her home on Watt Avenue.

She then cajoled two of the youngsters to kiss each other, and one of the boys to touch a girl's breast.

Earlier the same evening she also bought alcohol for a 14-year-old girl.

Now aged 23, Kavanagh appeared today at Elgin Sheriff Court to be sentenced.

Defence solicitor Robert Cruickshank described his client's behaviour as "unplanned and opportunistic as opposed to predatory".

He added: "It's unclear why she would have committed this crime, but to her credit she accepts her responsibility and her guilt."

Sheriff Gordon Lamont said: "The offences that you have pleaded guilty to are serious.

"Having said that, I take into account you're a first offender. In addition, I also take account of your young age.

"With these things in mind I consider that there is an alternative to custody."

Kavanagh had already been placed on the sex offenders register at the beginning of last month, after she admitted the offences during her first court appearance.

It was ordered today that her name should now remain on the register for the next two years.

In addition she has been put under the supervision of social workers for the same period of time
