A young musician who studies in Moray has been awarded a place with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
Katie Parker, who's aged 17 and a pupil at Gordonstoun, began playing the French horn five years ago.
Already a member of Scotland's youth orchestra, she was chosen for its British counterpart following a gruelling day of auditions in Manchester.
The teenager is now looking forward to appearing at London’s Albert Hall next year for the BBC Proms, which is widely regarded as the world’s greatest classical music festival.
Katie said: "I never dreamed I’d be where I am today, but music’s become a fundamental aspect of who I am. I can’t wait to continue this exciting journey.
"The school's music department has supported me since the day I arrived."
Katie spends a minimum of three hours every day practising on the French horn.
Being part of the Royal Conservatoire Scotland's junior programme also involves travelling to Glasgow most weekends for practice.
Phoebe Csenki, Gordonstoun's head of music, said: "Katie is on cloud nine right now. I am totally thrilled for her, as the competition to win a place is extremely tough.
"Being pushed to reach a higher level will hopefully spur her on to a career in music.
"Katie has shown great determination and commitment to reach this stage and is a credit to the school. This is an amazing opportunity and will open a lot of doors for her.
"She is an inspiration to the rest of the students and, hopefully, a few more will follow in her steps."
Katie will be taking part in several other prestigious events before the BBC Proms, including an appearance at London’s Barbican Hall in January.
