Moray planes scrambled this morning

Live-armed Typhoons were scrambled from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland this morning to intercept two Russian Tu-142 Bear-F aircraft.
The Russian maritime reconnaissance aircraft were initially monitored and intercepted by Norwegian Quick Reaction Alert (QRA).
The incident was then handed over to the control and reporting centre at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire who scrambled QRA out of RAF Lossiemouth.
Typhoons tracked the aircraft across the North Sea, supported by Voyager Air-to-Air Refuelling from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
The Moray base has four front-line Typhoon Squadrons, and one Poseidon MRA1 Squadron.
This number will increase to two when 201 Squadron stands up later this year.
Nine Poseidon MRA1 aircraft have been ordered, five of which are now operating from RAF Lossiemouth as of this week.
Lossiemouth will soon also be home to the Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning aircraft, the first of which is currently in production.
