POLICE in Moray joined many members of the public in a round of applause for NHS workers last night.

As the clock struck 8pm, some officers briefly halted their own front-line duties to show their appreciation for local health workers operating under immense pressure in the fight to slow the coronavirus pandemic.

In response to a tweet by Moray police, local councillor Paula Coy (SNP, Elgin North), chair of Moray Council's police and fire and rescue services committee, said: "Thank you to you guys too. Proud of all our people on the front line keeping us safe in every way."

The Clap for Carers saw people cheering and clapping in appreciation for health workers from doorsteps, balconies, windows and gardens, and passing drivers sounded horns.

Other organisations, such as Moray Wellbeing Hub in Elgin, posted videos of staff and volunteers participating in the nationwide show of gratitude.

While stuck at home many local youngsters have played a big role in cheering on workers providing essential services. Girlguiding Moray has been displaying artwork and notes of thanks from their local members.
