POSTAL voters in Moray are being urged to return their General Election vote as soon as possible.

Nearly 15,000 postal voting packs have been issued to those in Moray who successfully registered to vote by post for next week’s election. So far, around 40 per cent have been returned.

While votes are not counted until after the polls close at 10pm on December 12, election staff have to check the information accompanying each postal vote individually, making sure voters’ details are correct. This can be done as soon as votes are returned to the elections office.

Incorrect or incomplete information can invalidate a postal vote, so voters are urged to take time to complete it correctly, ensuring their date of birth is entered and not the date of signing – and ensuring the form is filled out completely, using a black pen. If you have more than one postal voter in the house, make sure you have signed your own voting pack.

The deadline for returning postal votes is 10pm on polling day – postal votes can be handed into any polling station in the Moray constituency. Step-by-guidance is available on Moray Council’s website for completing postal voting packs at www.moray.gov.uk/elections.
