The programme which is already underway in Moray will be run mainly at the Fiona Elcock Vaccination Centre in Elgin, but appointments will soon be made available at community clinics.

The first couple of weeks of the program will focus mostly on flu vaccinations, and will then include additional COVID-19 vaccinations.

Moray residents aged 50-64 are already being issued letters for flu vaccinations, but they will no longer be offered the COVID-19 vaccine unless they are at risk.

This change has been made to follow JCVI regulations and will ensure that those who need Coronavirus protection the most over the winter period can get it.

Invitation's will then be released for those aged 65+, as well as those with increased risk.

The health board is aiming to offer appointments to everyone eligible by mid-December.

NHS Grampian’s Vaccination Programme Manager Jo Hall said: "The festive period is a time when family, friends, and colleagues gather, often in large numbers, so rearranging the order we call people forward in should ensure those most at-risk have the highest level of protection possible at this busy time.

"I would encourage people in this age group to attend their appointment that they have received or follow the details on the prompt letter and book an appointment."

People who live in care homes for the elderly or are housebound will be able to get a direct visit to receive their vaccination.

Teachers and teaching staff will also have the opportunity to be vaccinated at school clinics at the end of the school day.

People who receive vaccination letters are encouraged to book an appointment when they receive their letter, either online through The National Booking Portal or by calling 0800 030 8013.
