A ONE million pound road improvements programme is set to be carried out in Moray.

The A95 between Craigellachie and Mulben is set to be upgraded, meaning there will be road closures between Thursday, April 25 and Friday, May 3.

Works will initially be carried out with an overnight closure from 7.30pm on April 25 until 6.30am on April 26. There will then be a full weekend closure between 7.30pm on Friday, April 26, and 6.30am on Monday, April 29.

This will then be followed by a further four overnight closures between April 29 and Thursday, May 2, from 7.30pm to 6.30am each night.

The £1 million project, which Amey is carrying out on behalf of Transport Scotland, will address defects on nearly 1200 metres of carriageway between Belnagarrow junction and 420 metres north of Knockans Farm.

The resurfacing project is being delivered using an eco-friendly recycling technique that Amey say will save hundreds of tonnes of carbon emissions. The same technique - known as in-situ cold recycling - is being used on roadworks on the A96 north of Keith in April.

In-situ cold recycling reuses all of the existing surfacing material to relay the new road pavement and reduces the carbon produced by a scheme by roughly 70 per cent. This also speeds up the process.

During the road closures, a signed diversion will be in place. Westbound traffic will follow the A96 north from Keith through Fochabers and take the first exit at Coul Brae Roundabout onto the B9015 southbound to follow to Rothes before taking the A941 south to Craigellachie and joining the A95. Eastbound traffic will take the route in reverse.

All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if conditions are not favourable.
