Council closes Logie Primary for three weeks

STRUCTURAL defects has forced Moray Council to close one of its primary school.

From tomorrow children from Logie Primary School at Dunphail will be bussed the six miles to Forres while repairs are carried out.

It is hoped to complete the work within three weeks.

The 24 pupils will attend Applegrove Primary School which has sufficient capacity to accommodate the Logie children.

A structural defect in the walls of the school building was discovered by Moray Council surveyors at the end of last week.

It is believed the problem stems from the installation of double-glazed windows two years ago.

A letter has been sent to parents alerting them to the situation and informing them of arrangements for transporting their children to and from Applegrove.

The pupils will continue to be taught by their own class teachers while they attend the Forres primary.

A council spokesman apologised to Logie parents for the short notice and any inconvenience caused.

He said: "It was not considered that the fault that was found compromised the integrity of the building but the remedial work requires to be carried out and, because of the disruption it would have caused to school life, it was decided to err on the side of caution and transfer staff and pupils until the work is completed."
