PUPILS at a Moray high school will be sent home early today, in the wake of worsening weather.
Head teacher Hugh McCulloch confirmed, in a message posted to Facebook, that Elgin High School will close at 1.30pm today (Thursday, January 18).
Mr McCulloch said the closure was essential "in order to maintain safety for our whole school community."
He urged students to travel home in a safe way, and said a decision on whether the school will open tomorrow will be announced later.
The school's canteen, however, will still be providing lunches.
Mr McCulloch said: "In order to maintain safety for our whole school community it is necessary to close Elgin High School at 1.30pm today, Thursday 18th January, due to the forecast for further bad weather.
"Lunches will still be available from the canteen.
"Please ensure you have made arrangements for your child's care
"All students should take necessary precautions when travelling home to ensure their safety
"This decision is made in line with our standard Adverse Weather arrangements which is attached.
"Further details for school opening on Friday 19th January will be shared later."
