A STUDENT nurse from Moray is preparing to brave a 300ft bungee jump for charity.

Rhiannon Robinson (20) will take the plunge at Aberdeen's Beach Boulevard on June 29 to raise cash for CLAN.

It will be the first bungee jump for the former Elgin Academy pupil, who said: "I'm feeling quite nervous as I’ve never done anything like this before and I can’t wear my glasses or contacts so it's going to be a blind jump for me.

"I'm planning on getting a go pro from somewhere so I can watch it back and see the view."

Rhiannon, of Lhanbryde, worked for Allied Healthcare before moving to the NHS and now works on Ward 7 at Dr Gray's Hospital. She has been accepted as a student nurse and will begin her studies after the summer.

She said: "I see so many people come and go with cancer at work and it is just so devastating.

"I wish more people knew about CLAN and their services. You don’t need to have been in hospital for CLAN to help you. They offer so much support and counselling to people going through cancer, as well as families and friends.

"I also would like to work at a cancer care unit when I’m a qualified nurse and have more experience."

Rhiannon has set herself a £500 fundraising target – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/rhiannon-robinson – and is also selling raffles. Up for grabs are three hampers packed with goodies, from vouchers amounting to £280 to wine, books, chocolates and more. The raffle, tickets which can be bought by emailing rhiannon2898@hotmail.co.uk, will be drawn on June 28. They cost £1 a strip or £5 for six strips.

Rhiannon thanked local businesses for their donations. She also appealed for anyone with a go pro she could borrow to get in touch.
