A MORAY village is holding an open day to shine a spotlight on rural community life.

Residents in Dyke are showcasing what the village has to offer during the May 11 event, which will run from 1-4pm in the Village Hall.

Co-ordinator Anna Thompson said: "Before I took on this role I’d really no idea how much was going on, and I suspect that most other local people will be as much in the dark as me.

"Our event will reveal some of the best-kept secrets in the village."

The Open Day has been organised by the Dyke Landward Community Council in association with the Hall Committee.

As well as some of the long-standing local groups such as the ever-popular Badminton Club and the local Pre-School and Rural Readers Society, there will be contributions from newer groups such as the Ballroom Dancing Club.

Also showcasing their club are members of the Jabuti Theatre and Circus Skills Group, who will be running demonstrations throughout the afternoon including a chance to try aerial acrobatics.

Meanwhile Hall Bookings and Forres Pipe Band secretary, John Channon, will be bringing along members of his band to let people have a go on the pipes.

The recently-formed Dyke and District Heritage Group will be having a display of photos and memorabilia and are hoping that anyone with stories, photos or items they might be able to share with the group will come along.

Group member Alison Rodgers said "This will certainly be of interest to anyone born and brought up in the area, but we also hope that people who have moved in to the area will enjoy finding out a bit more about where they now live."

With representatives from the Pre-School, Dyke Primary and the local Messy Church group, who will be putting on a children’s craft activity at the event, there will be plenty of interest for families, while Dyke Church will be selling cakes and teas/coffees.

The event, which is free to attend, is open to all and anyone interested can drop in at any time between 1-4pm.

For more information, or if anyone is interested in adding to the displays, contact Anna Thomson 07890 8583931 or via the hall email dykevillagehall@gmail.com.
