BANFFSHIRE'S lord lieutenant is encouraging local groups to learn more about a prestigious accolade for volunteers.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service has been described as the Honours system for volunteers. As well as acknowledging outstanding service, the award measures the quality of an organisation's work against a national standard.

An information evening will be held in the Seafield Arms Hotel, Cullen, on March 10, at 7.30pm. Attendees can learn more about the award and the nomination process. Representatives from Moray groups which have been past recipients will describe the value of the award to their organisations.

Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire Andrew Simpson said: "Throughout Banffshire, there are many volunteers and groups who work tirelessly to support others and to make our communities better for everyone. While most do so without seeking reward, there are ways in which this invaluable work can be recognised.

"Our local communities are exceptionally well served by many voluntary organisations and individuals who selflessly work to serve others and make our area a great place in which to live.

"I am keen to encourage groups in Banffshire to allow themselves to be nominated for this prestigious award and gain this national recognition for their achievements."

Those interested in attending are asked to email asimpson.banff@gmail.com. Further information about the award can be found at www.gov.uk/queens-award-for-voluntary-service.
