A woman who racially abused two people has been placed under court supervision for a year.

Rosemarie Harvey appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court where she admitted committing the offences during the evening of July 10.

The first person to be verbally abused was a woman who had driven to Nelson Terrace, Keith, to pick up her children from her in-laws.

Harvey, who lived nearby, came out of her house and asked the woman what all the noise was.

The 68-year-old then added: "Go back to your country, you Asian."

Police officers were called to the scene and arrested Harvey.

As she was being led to a police van, she shouted at her neighbour: "**** off you Asian".

Defence solicitor Stephen Carty said his client had been upset due to a prior dispute with her neighbour

The lawyer added: "On occasions she consumes too much alcohol."

Passing sentence, Sheriff Robert McDonald said: "There's no place for behaving in this sort of way or making these sort of comments."
