The Cabrach Tweed takes it colours from the hills, the skies and the stonework of the area.

Eight local women were brought together by The Cabrach Trust whose efforts to boost the area includes running craft workshops from its base at Inverharroch Farm.

Johnstons of Elgin helped the group with the initial design.

This was then taken to Woven In The Bone, a Buckie-based micro-mill, to create a physical product.

Macnaughton’s at Keith’s Isla Bank Mills then set about producing scarves and blankets.

Sam Dowdall, from The Cabrach Trust, said: “Being part of this project, and working alongside our community to create this gorgeous tweed, has been an honour.

“What the group has created with the willing support of local businesses, not only mirrors the astonishing beauty of The Cabrach’s landscape, but creates a very special product.”

Virginia Irvine-Fortescue, a local resident and trustee, said: “The tweed design has been inspired by the landscape that we live in and love.

“I think it’s the best possible take on the feel of The Cabrach.”

The Cabrach Trust is spearheading a series of projects and investments to breathe new life into the glen, including opening Scotland’s newest distillery later this year, which will herald the return of whisky-making there for the first time in 170 years.

George McNeil, of Johnstons of Elgin, said: “We were proud to play a small part supporting The Cabrach Trust’s community-led project. It was a pleasure hosting the group for a tour of our Newmill site in Elgin.

“The positive change happening in The Cabrach is something about which the whole of Moray should be proud.”

Last year, more than 2000 people visited the new all-abilities Cabrach Discovery Trail, which combines information on the natural landscape and wildlife. The trust has also reinstated a Highland Games to the area.
