Food writer Liz Ashworth has just had her latest book published – and it's a tasty creation.

The Scottish Baking Bible details how to make everything from bannocks to butteries, seaweed nibbles, shortbread and wee fancies such as sair heideis.

.

The book is the 18th from Liz to make it into print – and she reckons it might also be her favourite of the whole lot.

She said: "When the publishing company Birlinn approached me to ask whether I'd like to write a book on traditional Scottish baking recipies, I replied, "Are there fish in the sea?'

"Baking is my absolute passion."

Liz, who lives in Lhanbryde, continued: "I loved getting stuck into the research and collecting all the recipes.

"There were a few surprises along the way.

"For instance, I found quite a few conflicting views on how to make melting moments.

"I have my way which my mother taught me. However other folk go about it quite differently.

"So I've decided to include three distinct recipes."

With supplies of flour once more becoming available in the supermarkets, Liz reckons quite a few lockdown baking converts might want to give the recipes a try.

Liz said: "They're easy and they're usable. What's more, they're very tasty.

"And there's really nothing nicer than the smell of home baking. It completely raises your spirits."

The Scottish Baking Bible, which contains illustrations by Liz's friend Bob Dewar, costs £4.99 and is widely available to buy online, including at the website of Yeadon's of Elgin bookstore.
