THE Queen's representative in Moray has released a Christmas letter to the region's residents.
Lord Lieutenant Major General Seymour Monro praised individuals, communities, charities and emergency services for their efforts through another year of pandemic challenges.
Maj Gen Monro says: "It has been another challenging year as we have tried to live normal lives in the ongoing pandemic. Some have lost loved ones and some have not yet been able to see their families.
"However, during all of this, amazing people and groups have been helping individuals and their communities. I continue to be hugely impressed by our public servants and our charity volunteers who are supporting families in our midst on a daily basis whilst striving to reduce poverty in the longer term. Our enduring gratitude goes to them all.
"Our emergency services continue to be in great demand. The NHS, Ambulance Service, the Armed Forces, the Fire and Rescue Service, the Coastguard and MIRO have continued working alongside council staff and teachers through the pressures of the pandemic and recently Storm Arwen. They all deserve our thanks and praise.
"It has been a joy to see many individuals, businesses and organisations recognised this year by Her Majesty the Queen, and also at national and county levels. We were honoured with a visit by HRH the Princess Royal who met wonderful people who had done tremendous work for others. As a special treat, four of our local heroes went to HRH the Duchess of Cambridge's Carol Service at Westminster Abbey held for those who had gone above and beyond in their communities."
He adds: "Next year is The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Already communities and schools in Moray are involved in the Queen's Green Canopy 'plant a tree for the Jubilee' and in our very own special event: the Moray Badge Platinum Jubilee challenges for schoolchildren.
"Early next year we should all start planning for the Jubilee Weekend, from June 2-5, when we will be lighting beacons, lighting up buildings, piping and enjoying a Big Lunch or a Tea Party in our communities. We trust that Elgin's application to regain City Status is successful. So there's plenty to look forward to!
"Christmas approaches and with it more uncertainties. Our communities have proved over and over again just how strong they are. I am confident that the seasonal spirit of goodwill towards friends and neighbours will shine though again everywhere in Moray.
"Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!"
