MORAY'S MSP, Richard Lochhead, has written to NHS Grampian seeking an update on the plan to restore consultant led women’s and children’s services at Dr Gray’s.

Mr Lochhead got in touch with NHS Grampian's Chief Executive Amanda Croft to ask for details of the health board’s plans to plug the gap in anaesthetic provision in Elgin, which is being cited as the latest reason for the delay.

Moray's SNP MSP also asked what steps NHS Grampian has taken to recruit the additional obstetrics support needed to restore the service.

He said: "The months are flying by and the date for the implementation of phase two will have come and gone before we know it.

"It’s important for the local community to know what steps are being taken to plug the gap in the anaesthetic provision at Dr Gray’s which we were informed is the latest stumbling block to getting the full maternity service back up and running again.

"I am also keen to know what steps have been taken to recruit additional obstetrics support and the other relevant posts to enable the service to be restored.

"Too many constituents are still being expected to travel to Aberdeen to give birth."
