MORE than 85 per cent of adults in Moray have now received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The area's vaccination programme has been ramped up due to a spike in coronavirus cases over the last few weeks, with health chiefs yesterday praising Moray residents for the getting jabbed and tested in big numbers.

In the last seven days, a total of 7278 adults have received their first dose of a vaccine in Moray – with the number 7414 the week prior.

That means more than 20 per cent of the area's adults have received their first dose in the last two weeks alone, with 85.5 per cent of over 18s (or 66,292 people) now having been jabbed once.

Meanwhile, the number of second jabs administered was 4034 – well up on the 615 last week – taking the total number of people fully vaccinated in Moray to 31,470 (or 40.6 per cent of the adult population).

Moray has the highest first dose coverage in mainland Scotland, trailing only the Western Isles and Shetland where populations are far lower.

Across Scotland, 68.7 per cent of adults (3,051,383 people) have received their first jab and 38.4 per cent (1,704,388 people) have received both.

Across the NHS Grampian health board region, 71.4 per cent of adults (338,274 people) have received a first dose, with 37.7 per cent (178,757 people) having been fully vaccinated.
