ScotRail's new timetable heralds potentially good news for Moray workers who commute to Inverness.

However, anyone planning a night out in the Highland capital will still be forced to trail back home again well before the pubs shut.

The rail company has announced an extra early morning train to Inverness in its new timetable, which will come into effect from December 12.

Between Mondays and Fridays the service will leave Elgin Station at 7.25am.

It's then scheduled to depart Forres at 7.39am, before arriving in Inverness at 8.10am.

The new timetable will see the number of trains running from Inverness towards Elgin rise from 14 to 18 on weekdays, with a slight increase from 13 to 14 going in the opposite direction.

However the last service is still scheduled to leave Inverness Station at the relatively early time of 9.33pm.
