Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has submitted a motion highlighting the Dandelion Project, a joint initiative between RAF Lossiemouth, 39 Engineer Regiment and Moray Council, which seeks to ensure that all forces children have the right environment at school.

The project will establish a support network for the children at schools across Moray.

Mr Halcro Johnston said: “There are over 3000 serving military personnel based in Moray, many of whom are deployed overseas on operations.

“We know that these absences can, potentially, have a negative effect on family life. It is therefore absolutely right that military families should be given as much support as possible to ensure that their children flourish at school.

“This is something that we, as a community, owe to the men and women who serve and protect our country, and I am delighted that £370,000 will be invested over three years to support this project.

“This project gives proper expression to our country’s commitment to the armed forces covenant and it is very encouraging that many local schools across Moray are taking part.”

His motion read: "That the Parliament congratulates the Dandelion Project on being awarded £370,000 by the Armed Forces Covenant Trust Fund to support the children of serving military personnel in Moray; believes that this a very welcome expression of the country’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant; hopes that all of the children realise their full potential at school in a secure and welcoming environment, and sends its best wishes to the partners behind the project, The Moray Council and RAF Lossiemouth, 39 Engineer Regiment."
