Mural being created to celebrate Grant Park in Forres
A large mural featuring some of the animals you might find in Grant Park is being painted in preparation for the attraction’s 100th birthday.
The park was gifted to the town on August 24, 1924, by Sir Alexander Grant, a native of Forres and, incidentally, the inventor of the world-famous digestive biscuit.
A big celebration is already being planned for the big day.
The mural is a part of the build-up to those festivities and the idea of Sathya Schlõsser, a German graphic artist, animator and illustrator.
Sathya is currently staying in Forres with her boyfriend Ewen Watson, a local resident who’s also the lead singer with the popular Moray band Be Like Pablo.
She said: “My job involves a lot of sitting at a desk in front of a computer screen, so I wanted to do something that got me outside.
“The mural is something for the community. I love Grant Park. I think it’s a special place for the town.”
The pair approached Anna Henderson, the owner of the ice cream parlour inside the park, who agreed to the idea of a mural.
Sathya then created a design featuring animals such as pine martens, bees, rabbits, deer and squirrels, which you might spot for real as you walk around.
The design was first created on a computer then projected onto the wall of the ice cream parlour.
Sathya then used charcoal to draw in its outlines and a team of volunteers have got to work to paint in the various colours.
Sathya, who is from the Bavarian city of Nuremberg, has previously produced artwork for Be Like Pablo.
In addition, she created the illustrations for Fantastic Forres, a children’s guide to the town, which was written by Ewen.
