Songwriter Amy Papiransky releases Rabbie Burns inspired release

MUSICIAN Amy Papiransky looked to Rabbie Burns for inspiration for a topical release.
The former BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Tear finalist has released “As I was a wand’ring” for Burns Night.
To celebrate the release - and the great Bard’s birthday - Amy will perform the song for Eddi Reader’s Big Burns Supper alongside a stellar line-up including Eddi Reader, KT Tunstall, Skerryvore, Tide Lines, Dervish and many more. Amy sang a lot of Robert Burns’ songs as a young child.
She said: “My primary school music teacher and hero, Mrs Joyce Dawson, would enter me in to the Robert Burns singing competitions every year - Ae Fond Kiss would be my go to song.
“One evening last November I heard the beautiful voice of Scots singer Emily Smith perform As I Was A Wand’ring. I listened to the words and fell in love with the song.
“I then sat down at my piano and decided to put the words of Burns to my own music. I came up with a chord progression and melody, and recorded it in the studio, with the talented Lyle Watt accompanying me on guitar.”
In 2021 Amy released single “Dear Amy”which gained support from BBC Radio Scotland, Soho Radio, Amazing Radio and Vevo, and peaked at number 19 on the UK iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart.
This was followed by single “Summertime Blues” - chosen by Afternoon Show host Janice Forsyth as BBC Radio Scotland’s Single of the Week. The song also received support from BBC Introducing, Soho Radio, Amazing Radio and Vevo.
Having played a string of solo shows and opening for KT Tunstall and Blue Rose Code in Scotland last year, Amy is looking forward to further live dates for 2022, including performing at HebCelt.
A music teacher by trade, she has been writing and recording her own material for the last eight years while living in Glasgow.
“A bit of Dolly and a bit of Carole King with the piano, and a real tie in with good country writing over her stunning Scottish accent,” is how BRIT and Ivor Novello award-winning singer/songwriter KT Tunstall described her.
Amy’s debut album Read Me Write was released in September 2019.
A young woman with plenty to say, Amy has carefully crafted a collection of new mellow, uplifting pop songs and effortless ballads which tell tales of love, loss, heartbreak and strength and she is looking forward to sharing them with the world.
