People were left baffled by the strange triangular light in the sky across much of the UK last night.

Sightings of the 'UFO' were recorded throughout Moray at around 10pm leading to much speculation about the light's origin.

Onlookers described the light as comet like in appearance but lacking in any kind of speed. It quickly disappeared from view not long after.

However, it has since been revealed that the light was NASA's Landsat 9 satellite being carried into orbit.

It was successfully launched at 6.12pm UK time from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

The satellite was built by NASA to monitor the Earth's land surface as a joint mission with the US Geological Survey.

It is hoped that the mission will lead to a better understanding of our planet.
