A WOMAN who saved a man's life at Hopeman's West Beach is being asked to come forward by a thankful mother.
Christopher Cunningham (25), who is set to become a father in less than three weeks, was jumping off the West Beach harbour wall on August 4 when he got into trouble.
But a mystery woman, who was with her children at the time, jumped in and helped drag Mr Cunningham to safety. He only had time to say a quick thanks before the woman disappeared into the distance.
Now Christopher's mother, Linda Cunningham, from Old Leslie near Inverurie, wants to say thanks and get the woman a box of chocolates and some flowers. The only problem is, she doesn't know who she is.
She told the Northern Scot: "I just want to say a huge heartfelt thank you from one mother to another. Thank you for saving my son.
"He said thank you but she disappeared too quickly for a proper thanks. If you lined up ten mums, not many would jump into the water and do that."
While Mr Cunningham, who works as a plumber and was on holiday in Hopeman, was saved, others might not have been so lucky.
Mrs Cunningham added: "Christopher is quite strong, but he said it was just a moment of madness.
"He is 25 years old and is going to be a dad soon. He just jumped in and couldn't get out, his pregnant girlfriend was standing there crying.
"The story could have had a terrible ending. Luckily, a ring was thrown in and the lady and Christopher were dragged to safety."
- The woman, from Duffus, has now come forward and will soon meet Mrs Cunningham. More to follow.
