NAT Fraser is to face a retrial.

Judges at the Court of Appeal in Edinburgh ruled that Fraser (52) from Elgin, will be tried again for the alleged murder of his wife Arlene in 1998.

He was remanded in custody following the decision.

His latest appearance follows his successful appeal to the UK Supreme Court which last month ruled that he had not received a fair trial at the High Court in 2003, when he was convicted of plotting his wife’s murder and jailed for a minimum of 25 years.

His wife’s rings were the cornerstone of the Crown case, which The Supreme Court remitted the case back to the Criminal Court of Appeal in Scotland for quashing of his conviction and consideration of the issue of a re-trial.

At a hearing last week in Edinburgh the Crown said it sought to bring fresh proceedings against Fraser, which was opposed by his legal team.

Following a full day of legal submissions and arguments, the case was adjourned until today (Friday.

The body of Arlene Fraser (33) has never been found despite one of the biggest missing person and subsequent murder enquiries in the history of Grampian Police.

Her children, Jamie and Natalie, were the last people to see her alive as she waved them off to school that morning.
