New quartet make Scottish debut in Inverness

OCTOBER’S classical concerts at Inverness Town House will bring to the Highlands another highly talented young pianist from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and a full evening performance by a new piano quartet bringing together four well known names from the world of chamber music.
On Thursday 10th October at 1pm, the lunchtime At One With Music series welcomes the young German pianist Maraike Brüning to play Bach’s French Suite No 1, Schumann’s Kinderszenen and the third of Chopin’s four Ballades.
Brüning grew up in southern Germany near Stuttgart, where she attended the local music school and was awarded first prize numerous times in the Jugend Musiziert and Tonkünstler Association schemes.
She studied at the famous Musikhochschule Lübeck with Professor Konrad Elser, until she was awarded an Erasmus Scholarship from the European Union, enabling her to move to Glasgow where she is in the final year of a degree in music performance as a student of Jonathan Plowright.
Her concert engagements have taken her to many countries, especially around the Baltic Sea, and this summer she performed at Bayreuth.
The doors will open for Brüning’s Town House performance at 12.30pm and admission costs £5 (children £1).
The following week, the Town House will see Scottish debut of the Atalanta Piano Quartet on Tuesday 15th October at 7.30pm.
Brought together in late 2012 by pianist Simon Lane, the Atalanta Piano Quartet also features violinist Cecilia Bernardini (leader of the Dunedin Consort), violist Tom Hankey (from the Aronovitz Ensemble) and cellist Nathaniel Boyd (soloist and co-founder of the multi-national Navarra String Quartet).
They will be playing the Beethoven Piano Quartet in E flat major Op 16/2, Fauré’s Piano Quartet No 1 in C minor Op 15 and Brahms’ Piano Quartet No 1 Op 25.
