The library held a Welcome Back Day last Thursday, inviting customers and pupils from Mount Pleasant school who came in staggered visits throughout the day.

The children enjoyed a buddy reading session and got the chance to see the extensive range of junior books available.

The staff had a busy day with 246 visitors and they also took the opportunity of the open day to present medals and certificates to some of the children who completed this year’s summer reading scheme with the theme ‘Creepy House’.

Thurso councillors Roger Saxon and Donnie Mackay presented the medals and certificates to Kent Murray, Alana Mackenzie, Alana Farquhar, Tyler Mackenzie, Leah Begg, Jack Campbell and Lena Campbell.

Earlier in the week, staff were pleased to see the return of a once regular borrower, the Three Bears Nursery, which made a visit in the morning and returned in the afternoon to borrow 15 books for its nursery projects.

The staff received many complimentary comments and thanks for the extra effort and help to customers during the months the library van was in operation.
