Taking a look at the pick of upcoming films in the box office. This week - nasty stockbrokers!
The Wolf Of Wall Street (18)
Release: Friday 17 January
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Jonah Hill
Director: Martin Scorsese
Synopsis: A New York stock broker refuses to cooperate in a large securities fraud case that includes mob infiltration into Wall Street and the corporate banking world.
Why You Should See It: DiCaprio and Scorsese have formed a rather fruitful partnership over the last eleven years – indeed, DiCaprio has appeared in every one of Scorsese's films apart from Hugo since 2002. During this time, there's been awards a-plenty. “The Wolf Of Wall Street” looks to be no different, with DiCaprio's performance in particular garnering critical acclaim.
What of the film itself? It's bleakly comic, a satirical takedown of the real-life stockbroker Jordan Belfort (played by DiCaprio), and, to warn you now, there's a lot of filth. Drugs, swearing and sex abound in this movie – but it's justified by the need to show the excesses of Belfort's lifestyle. It never openly judges, allowing the viewers to make up their own mind, but the graphic quality of the scenes speak for themselves.
