A long-standing SNP supporter from Moray has received a personal video message from Nicola Sturgeon as well as lifetime membership of the party.

Margo Howe is active in many community groups in and around Fochabers and is also convenor of the area's SNP branch.

In her video message, Nicola Sturgeon said: "I am delighted to see Margo honoured in this way.

"I can’t think of anyone who more deserves this accolade.

"She has given decades of service to the party and to the cause of independence."

Margo is a former member of both Grampian Regional Council and Moray Council where she represented the Fochabers/Lhanbryde ward.

In addition, she was also the election agent for Richard Lochhead when he was first elected to Holyrood in 2006.

Moray's MSP was on hand to present Margo with her membership card plus a small token from the party.

He said: "This is a fantastic recognition of her extraordinary commitment and loyalty to the SNP and Scotland’s cause.

"It is fitting because Margo has spent much of her lifetime helping the SNP get where we are today.

"Margo helped the SNP break nationally by helping us win in Moray, and she helped keep that flame burning during the more difficult years as well as the good ones.

"Margo is always someone we can rely on and she is a lynchpin in our campaign teams, and I have always valued her wise counsel."

The woman herself professed to be both "shocked and surprised".

She said: "Words can’t express how proud and yet humble I feel to be given such a token of respect and esteem from my fellow SNP members.

"I want to thank all the members for the gifts, the flowers and for my very special honorary lifetime membership card."
