A SUPERVISOR at a Moray recycling centre has been injured after a needle was found on the picking line.

The incident has led to a renewed call for residents to dispose of used needles responsibly.

In recent times, two needles have been found by members of the recycling team sorting through waste from residents’ purple bins at Moray Council’s Materials Recovery Facility in Lossiemouth, which is operated by Moray Reach Out.

Residents using needles/syringes for medical purposes should dispose of them in a sharps box – a specially designed rigid box with a lid – to protect themselves and others during the disposal process.

Sharps boxes are available on prescription and can be arranged through a GP or pharmacist.
