New bike repair stations and cycle stands to be installed in Keith

REIDHAVEN Square in Keith is in line for a new bike repair station, pump and cycle stands.
This is thanks to a funding package of up to £25,000 from Moray Council, which is aiming to make active travel easier to access.
A bike repair station and pump at Keith Community Centre will also be installed, along with cycle stands at St Ruffus Park, and cycle signage at Fife Keith Square.
Moray Council’s Active Travel team asked the community in summer 2023 how it wanted to spend the funding, which was set aside by the council for active travel infrastructure.
The scheme ties in with the council’s Active Travel Strategy, which aims to build on the increase in walking and cycling in Moray over the next five years.
Economic, development and infrastructure services committee chair, Cllr Marc Macrae (Conservative, Fochabers-Lhanbryde), said the infrastructure should be installed early in 2024.
He added: “Keith residents made some great choices to spend their pot of £25,000 active travel funding.
"They decided the town really needed these facilities to help cyclists get around and encourage more people to take it up.
"It is a skill for life and a great way to stay fit and healthy and do your bit for the environment at the same time.”
The Keith consultation was done under Moray Council’s Participatory Budgeting programme, which allows communities to decide how public money should be spent in their area.
