A site where a new cemetery can be built in Elgin has potentially been identified.

Moray Council is looking at an area to the south of the town.

Adjacent to Linkwood Road, it is about seven football fields in size.

Councillors will be asked to give their thoughts on developing the site at a meeting of the planning committee on Tuesday.

The local authority has been searching for years to find a suitable site for a cemetery in Elgin, as plots at the current one are becoming scarce.

Public information sessions about the proposal will be held in the New Elgin and Ashgrove Hall this coming Tuesday, and again on Tuesday, November 28.

Innes and Elgin community councils will also be asked their views.

The same planning meeting will also consider a notice from Springfield Properties that it is considering building upwards of 50 houses on open farm land to the east of Barrhill Road, Buckie.

The site is around 6.9 hectares in size – about eight football pitches.

Public consultations have already been held on the proposal.
