NEW Elgin Post Office will remain closed for longer than expected after new year due to a number of staff members testing positive for coronavirus.

The team at the post office has entered isolation, meaning it isn't possible to reopen tomorrow as planned.

Instead the post office is planning to open on Thursday, January 7.

A social media post from the New Elgin Post Office reads: "Unfortunately, due to some staff members catching Covid-19 and the rest of the team being put into isolation, we will not be reopening as planned on the 5th of January.

"At the moment, we should be able to reopen on the 7th but that may change at any time if anyone else in the team get ill.

"We thank you for your patience and understanding and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

"This is very disappointing for us all as we managed to stay safe and open during the first lockdown but just shows how important it is that we continue to follow the FACTS."
