RESIDENTS of New Elgin are being urged to take the first step to a healthy lifestyle.

Staff from the Linkwood Medical Practice are working with Moray Health and Social Care together with Paths for All to offer a weekly New Elgin Community Health Walk, starting and finishing at the practice.

The walks will take place at 10am every Friday from August 30. They are free, low level and led by a trained walk leader.

Walkers should meet just outside the main entrance to the Linkwood Practice and the walk itself involves a route with views south to the Morayshire countryside.

It is open to everyone including people who haven't been active for a while and would like to start again.

The walks are also suitable for people recovering from ill health or who are managing a long-term condition and anyone who has been told by a health professional they would benefit from being more active.

Regular walking provides a range of benefits including helping to prevent a number of health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, lifting mental health and aiding sleep.

Walking as part of a group is also a powerful way of helping to feel more connected to your community.
