The go-ahead has been given for the first phase of a housing development at Buckie.

Members of Moray Council's planning committee approved an application, subject to conditions, for Morlich Homes Ltd Ltd to build 65 houses at Muirton, which is to the west of the town and south of the golf course.

The houses are the initial stage of a larger development that could see a total of 160 homes.

The application attracted 63 representations, 32 objections, 27 in support and two neutral.

Officers recommended the application for approval.

The houses include 19 affordable homes with the rest private.

As part of additional conditions Morlich Homes will have to provide more information both about electrical charging points for vehicles and about the cycle storage for properties which have no secure outside space.

Developer obligations relating to school and transport needs will also have to be finalised before the building work can begin.

The council is also going to look at road safety concerns including buses to and from the cemetery car park.

At the same meeting planning permission was approved for Renewable Energy Systems Ltd to build a storage facility at Drum Farm on the eastern edge of Keith.

Members also gave the go-ahead for temporary extension at Cairdshill Quarry at Keith for Tarmac Caledonian Ltd.
