POUNDLAND signs could be put up outside the vacant Poundstretcher near TK Maxx, after Elgin's previous branch was "devastated" by fire.

The plans, which propose putting up two new signs on the Thunderton Road building, were sent to the Council on Friday, September 23.

The new application could mean that Poundland's operation is moving into the vacant property, which has been empty since the closure of Poundstretcher during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Elgin's high street Poundland was the scene of a fire in August which store manager Gerry McAloon said caused "total devastation".

A 15-year-old boy was later charged in connection with the blaze.

After the fire, Poundland manager Mr McAloon said the shop's staff would continue to be paid throughout the period of uncertainty.

A sign is planned for the front of the building, next to the TK Maxx sign, which the plans say would be 3.95 metres from the ground.

The signs could replace the building's Poundstretcher sign.

The site of the application is attached to the Batchen Lane multi storey car park and has an entrance on South Street.
