Nine more Covid-19 deaths in Scotland

THERE have been nine more deaths from Covid-19 in Scotland.

That takes the number of deaths to 2103, health secretary Jeanne Freeman said.

There have been 14,537 positive cases confirmed - an increase of 90 from yesterday.

A total of 1308 patients are in hospital with the virus – 1007 who have been confirmed as having Covid, and 301 who are suspected of having Covid. That represents a total decrease of 108.

A total of 59 people last night were in intensive care with confirmed or suspected Covid-19.

She added: "Since March 5, a total of 3354 patients who had tested positive for the virus have been able to leave hospital. I wish all of them well."

She revealed that 2000 contact tracing staff will be in place by the end of May, ready to implement the Scottish Government's test, trace, isolate and support policy.

Across the UK, another 170 people have died in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of fatalities to 34,636.
