Support for those impacted by the tragedy is available through The Gordon Schools.

Aberdeenshire Council have confirmed that counselling and psychology teams are on hand to offer support.

No further information about the young person involved is available at this time.

It is understood that the school has cancelled this evening's junior school dance, along with tomorrow's senior dance.

This year's Christmas Service at the end of term, due to be held at Strathbogie Parish Church, has also been cancelled.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: “The Gordon Schools have support in place for anyone affected by what has happened and colleagues from our counselling and psychology teams will be available to anyone who needs them.

“Pupils have also been signposted to further supports that are available outside of school.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of this young person.”
