A YOUNG woman from Huntly has been hailed a hero for the part she played in averting a further disaster after Wednesday's train crash in which three people died.
The off-duty ScotRail employee, named locally as Nicola Whyte, is understood to have walked a mile to raise the alarm after the early-morning derailment south of Stonehaven.
Her actions, after freeing herself from the wreckage ensured that that no other trains came along the line and alerted emergency services.
Enquiries about Ms Whyte's part in the incident were directed to ScotRail, who declined to make any comment.
