An offender ended up briefly behind bars after managing to carry out only seven hours of unpaid work for the community within a whole year.

Connor Gray was originally given a 120-hour community punishment order.

The 23-year-old appeared this week at Elgin Sheriff Court via a video link from Inverness Prison, having failed to come anywhere near completing that number.

Sheriff Gordon Lamont said: "I'm being asked to give you another chance to demonstrate to the court that you are someone who's willing to take this order seriously.

"You have six weeks.

"Be under no illusion about what will await you if you fail. You've had a brief taste of it.

"It's time to start taking responsibility for your actions and to demonstrate to the court that you are someone who can be helped within the community."

Gray, whose address was given in court papers as Ernest Hamilton Court, Elgin, pleaded guilty to two charges.

The first related to possession of a small amount of cannabis, the other to a failure to turn up for a court appearance.
