ELGIN'S Cooper Park was packed with people on Sunday for the inaugural charity Rotafun.

Organised by Rotary Elgin, the Summer Family Fun Day included a 5-mile run which completed the club's new Triple Challenge.

More than 100 runners took part in the finale of the tri-pronged competition, which included a swimming event in February and a cycling race in April.

Winning the men's running race was Ed Dunbar, of Moray Firth triathlon club, while the club's Sarah McGregor won the female section.

Elsewhere in the park, there were displays and entertainment aplenty, as well as food and drink outlets and charity stalls.

Live music filled the air and local sporting clubs and associations were on hand, offering sample sessions for young and old alike.

Ahead of the Fun Day, a Saturday afternoon Tea Party was held, followed by an evening concert with Moray Concert Brass.

Club president George Duthie said: "On behalf of Rotary Elgin, I would like to thank the good people of Elgin and the wider Moray community for their tremendous support to Rotary Elgin this year and especially to Rotafun and the Running Challenge of Rotary Elgin’s Triple Challenge this past weekend in the Cooper Park, Elgin.

"Both these are new events in Rotary Elgin’s busy calendar and are the brainchild of Rotarian Brenda Munro who, with her team, have put in many hours planning and delivering these new events."

Mr Duthie thanked the Moray Triathlete Club for assisting with the swimming event, Elgin Cycling Club with the cycling leg and Moray Road Runners and Parkrun with the running challenge.

He also thanked the sporting clubs who helped ensure Rotafun's success, as well as sponsors Wink and Mackenzie, Hendersons of Moray and Robertson.

"Rotafun and the Triple Challenge have been such a great success that I’m confident they will become fixtures in our Rotary Calendars for many years to come," Mr Duthie said.
