AN ELGIN theatre company has thanked the local community after raising nearly £3000 through donations and a Christmas raffle.

Out of the Darkness Theatre Company worked on overdrive at the end of 2020 to create a pantomime for Moray's children and elderly people – named Dick McWhittington.

Dick McWhittington was made into a DVD and sent out, for free, to care homes and primary schools. The leftover copies were free to pick up, but many locals left a donation.

On top of that, many people bought raffle tickets – and donated raffle prizes – allowing Out of the Darkness to raise £2811.

The money raised will be going towards future productions, Mark Sellars, the group's business manager said.

Mr Sellars was more than thankful for the public's generosity.

He said: "We would like to thank the local community, including all businesses who generously supported our Christmas raffle by providing a prize and purchasing raffle tickets, and everyone who made a donation towards our Pantomime DVD – Dick McWhittington.

"We successfully raised £2811.25.

"Our Christmas raffle was organised by Charlene Haigh-Frarey who attends our Performance Group with help from her support worker Laura Keeble during lockdown last year.

"The support that we have received has been overwhelming as we cannot thank everyone enough."
