AFTER a successful summer challenge in July, Lossiemouth-based charity Outfit Moray is launching its winter challenge.

The outdoor learning and adventure youth charity is encouraging people to take up its winter challenge to help raise vital funds for work with young people in Moray.

Those taking part will have to walk, run, cycle or paddle either 96, 250 or 516 miles.

Outfit Moray's winter challenge follows on from the success of the group's summer challenge.

The charity's community and corporate fundraiser, Karen Cox, said: “The response to our summer challenge in July was incredible with more than 45 participants signing up to take part, including teams from the Moray Council, The Northern Scot and Windswept Brewing, who raised more than £7300 between them.

"With ages ranging from five to 74, it really captured the imagination of many, and we were blown away by their incredible efforts.

“So, instead of giving something up for a New Year resolution, we are encouraging people to take up our winter challenge.

"They can cycle, run, walk, wheel or paddle the distance of either the North Coast 500, NE250 or Moray Way which will be a fantastic way to burn off those extra Christmas calories and start 2021 with a healthy bang.

“People can take part on their own, or combine their miles as part of a team within their household, family or workplace, and we are hoping it will give people an incentive to get moving during a month where we all tend to be feeling our slowest."

Tony Brown, CEO of Outfit Moray, added: “Our comprehensive programme of life-changing outdoor learning activities is unique to Moray and has been even more important for school hubs, charities, youth groups, and families this year.

"With the ‘rule of six’ not applying to organised outdoor activities, we have been able to provide vital opportunities to young people and their families during very difficult times.

"Like most charities, we have been hugely affected by the pandemic and are struggling with fundraising opportunities. We should have had three teams taking part in the Strathpuffer in January but, like many similar events, it has been cancelled.

"We are looking forward to delivering for young people next year and if we can help motivate everyone to keep fit over winter, that’s a bonus."

Participants can download and print off a calendar to keep track of their distances and Outfit Moray have set up a Virgin Money Giving page to link any fundraising too.
