A FUNDRAISER set up to help the family of a Stagecoach driver who died after an alleged assault at Elgin Bus Station has raised over £30,000 just days after going live.

Keith Rollinson (58) died at Dr Gray's after an incident at the bus station on February 2.

A 15-year-old male, who was arrested in connection with the incident, has been charged with murder and appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court on Monday (February 5).

In the aftermath, Keith's Stagecoach colleagues set up an online fundraiser to support his heartbroken family.

Within hours, thousands had been donated and countless tributes made.

Stagecoach driver Kirsty Robson set up the page on behalf of fellow colleagues.

Writing on the page, she said:"Keith has only been with us for a little under two years but boy did he make an impression on us all.

"He was a private, gentle and caring man with a wicked sense of humour.

"We are all truly shocked and saddened that this could happen."

Stagecoach drivers and members of the public paid tribute to Keith on Sunday by laying flowers and holding a minute's silence at the station.

But tributes continue to pour in from those who knew Keith, or "Rollo" as he was known among some of his friends, and those who didn't.

Kerry Hamilton, who served with Keith at RAF Lossiemouth, said: "He was a lovely, kind, gentle giant with a wicked sense of humour. He will be sorely missed.

"My thoughts are with his family."

Matt Courtley, who also served alongside Keith at RAF Lossiemouth, hailed his "warm personality" and "unique sense of humour".

He said: "He was great to work with and a huge shoulder for me personally through a really dark time after an incident and hospitalisation.

"Truly shocked and saddened to hear of the circumstances.

"Rest easy Keith. Thank you for being a positive influence."

Stagecoach drivers from across the UK have been quick to offer their condolences.

Naime Rehman said: "As a member of the Stagecoach family it’s so hard to hear about a loss of someone in our family."

Macaulay Morgan said: "Fellow driver taken from us far too early.

"No one should go to work and not come home especially in our line of work.

"My deepest condolences to Keith’s family, friends and colleges.

"Please take care and know you are in people’s thoughts far and wide."

The local community remains in shock a little under a week after the incident.

Many hope that the positive reaction to the fundraiser provides some comfort for Keith's family as they come to terms with their loss.

And there will be a moment for community reflection this Saturday (February 10) at St Giles Church in Elgin where members of the public have been encouraged to come along to honour Keith.

The memoriam will begin at 7pm.
