PEOPLE aged over 55 are being invited to try salsa dancing and zumba gold for the first time at taster sessions in Moray this month.
The free classes are part of the Royal Voluntary Service First Time for Everything programme, supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
The programme gives people an opportunity to try something new in their local community.
Local dance teacher, Nikki Dean, will host a beginner's level introduction to salsa dancing at Moray Sports Centre in Elgin on Friday, January 14, at 2pm.
Participants will learn basic steps to music, and refreshments will be available afterwards at Calum’s Kitchen in the centre.
On Friday, January 28, at 1pm, local exercise instructor Eleni from Ellicize will be introducing zumba gold, a lower intensity version of the typical Zumba class, designed especially for older people, at Marine Park Pavilion in Lossiemouth.
Comfortable clothing and soft shoes are recommended for both sessions.
Laura Chow, head of charities, People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “First Time for Everything activities are a safe, gentle and enjoyable way to boost physical and mental health and wellbeing, particularly for those that are older or less mobile.
"Thanks to the players of People’s Postcode Lottery, local people can look forward to some great sessions.”
Booking for both sessions is essential as places are limited. To register for a place, contact Sharon Finlay, Royal Voluntary Service activity co-ordinator on 07974 415713 or email sharon.finlay@royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk.
