A MORAY woman has cycled 250 miles in searing heat to raise more than £3700 for a cause very close to her heart.

Trixie Findlay (68) spent a week pedalling through the countryside of South East Asia in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

The retired support for learning teacher, who lives in Elgin, said: "I suffered a heart attack around four and a half years ago.

"Having followed the instructions of the staff at the Rehabilitation Unit at Doctor Gray's, my doctor and most of all, my cardiac nurse, I am much fitter and stronger and felt I wanted to do a little something to say thank you and help others who may suffer a similar event in their lives.

"Without discussing my plans with my family, I signed up to a cycle challenge in Vietnam and Cambodia.

"This was to cycle 250 miles over seven days in exceptional heat."

After winning the support of her family and friends, she set off for the challenge and said it was an experience she will never forget.

Mrs Findlay said: "I had a fantastic experience. I was the second oldest in the group and the youngsters, all very much younger than me, made sure I made it to the end of each day in fine spirits.

"A fantastic experience. I raised £3770 by simply asking friends and family to donate a little to my cause. I wish to thank them all."

That includes the monks at Pluscarden Abbey, who supported the fundraising effort, as well as the ladies on the committee at Pluscarden Hall who organised a coffee and cake afternoon.

Substantial donations also came from Mike McDonald of DM Hall Surveyors and Sandy Adam of Springfield Properties.
