THE fourth Royal Air Force Poseidon MRA1 maritime patrol aircraft, named Spirit of Reykjavik, has arrived at RAF Lossiemouth.
The aircraft arrived yesterday afternoon at the Moray base.
It gained the name in honour of the role Iceland's capital and its people played in enabling the Allied victory during the Battle of the Atlantic during World War Two.
Without these the UK could simply not have carried on the war effort.
A new airfield, seaplane base and refuelling port at Reykjavik extended the range of RAF aircraft and Royal Navy escort vessels and curbed the threat of the German u-boats.
CXX (120) Squadron patrolled the Atlantic skies and the current 120 Sqn flies the new Poseidon maritime aircraft.
