ELGIN Model Railway Club saw a successful return of their annual show 'Modelfair' earlier this month.

The show returned on November 6 and November 7 at Elgin Town Hall after it had been cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Exhibitors travelled from across Scotland to show off model trains, planes and automobiles as well as Meccano and war-gaming set ups.

Andrew Allardyce, Secretary of Elgin Model Railway Club, was happy to see the return of the show and said plans are already in place for future shows.

He said: "I'm pleased to say that we had an excellent show. Obviously we were concerned about what the potential footfall would be from the public but from early on the Saturday it was clear we were pretty much back to normal.

"When we analysed the numbers after the show we were only about 10 per cent down on pre-Covid levels. It was really good to be back and this was a sentiment that was also expressed by both exhibitors and members of the public. We had a wide variety of exhibits, it was not only trains but anything that could be modelled, and exhibitors were from far and wide, from Aberdeen to Inverness and from Perth to Shetland.

"We have already booked in to the town hall for Modelfair 2022 and Modelfair 2023, on the first weekend in November each year."

Mr Allardyce had said that organisers were "apprehensive" that exhibitors wouldn't turn up over worries around Covid-19. However, wider passages, a strict mask policy and a scaled back buffet ensured that the event went ahead without a hitch.
