TRIBUTES were paid and wreaths were laid in Forres for Remembrance Sunday.

Crowds lined the streets and packed out St Leonard's Church for a special service before a parade, comprising of 39 Engineer Regiment, British Legion members, Scouts, Guides, Boys Brigade, Air Cadets and veterans, marched through the high street.

The parade and members then arrived at the war memorial where a two-minute silence was held and wreaths were laid.

Eric Duguid, Forres British Legion chairman, gave a short speech during the service at St Leonard's.

He was pleased with how the day went and estimates that nearly 500 people attended the service at the church.

Mr Duguid said: "The service went to plan and the church was packed.

"The parade went without a hitch and the wreath laying went really well.

"I don't now how much the church holds but it was really full. Maybe 500 or so. Maybe even more. I wouldn't really want to put a figure on that but it was pretty packed.

"There were loads of people on the streets as well. We had hundreds down at the wreath laying ceremony so all in all I think it was a really excellent day.

"The comments after were that it was great so that was really appreciated as well."

There was also a service and wreath laying at the Forres Whitley Memorial.
