The year 1970 was to prove a very good one for Elgin City.

They rounded off the 1969/70 season as champions of the Highland League as well as runners-up in the Scottish Qualifying Cup, which at the time was the only way for non-league teams to get into the Scottish Cup.

During the latter half of 1970 they then commenced a sequence of victories run which would see them ultimately clinch the Scottish Qualifying Cup the next season.
